Does cork flooring act as a sound barrier? I'm interested in installing cork flooring. I've been told that it acts as a sound barrier. I have a new home, the master bedroom is above the kitchen and the genius builder didn't insulate between the floors. It doesn't matter how softly or hard someone walks across the floor, it wakes me up b/c of the noise but also b/c of the vibration. Will cork flooring reduce the vibration and noise?
I want to use underlayment under glue-down cork flooring? The instructions for the glue-down cork flooring say to glue to sub floor, however, I really want to put down a wide sheet of cork underlayment because cork is so thin. would this mean gluing down underlayment then gluing down cork on top?
Benefits and drawbacks of cork flooring? I love the look of cork flooring and would love to install it in my kitchen, however, I've heard mixed reports about its longevity and durability. If anyone has any experiences or advice they'd like to share, it would be much appreciated.
Running wires under new cork flooring? in my house, we're replacing our decade-old carpet with new cork flooring. however, that means that the tv cables and internet wires currently running beneath the carpet will have to be moved. what would you recommend with what to do with the wires...since i assume it would be difficult to run wires under a cork floor.
Would you choose cork flooring for a toddler's bedroom? I'm shopping for new flooring for my 3 year old son's bedroom. I've found some cork flooring that looks really nice at a local flooring retailer. I've never heard of cork flooring before, so I wanted to get some opinions before I bought it.
Cork flooring. It is worth the money? I am thinking of putting cork flooring in a house that I am attempting to flip. I just wondered if anyone out there has any knowledge they would like to share.
Does paint thinner harm cork flooring? I just tried to clean my new cork floors after the work people left and the cleaner from i-floors isn't causing the luster to come back. I see smears and can't get them out. Would the paint thinner I saw a painter using on the floors have ruined the finish? Thanks
What do think about cork flooring? I am thinking about putting cork flooring in my kitchen and bathroom. Cork is supposed to be water resistant, but I'm not sure about that. It's also suppose to be low maintenance. Does any one out there have cork flooring, and what do you have to say about it.
For people who know about cork flooring? I am designing a master bathroom and am trying to be as eco friendly as possible, so I'm considering using cork. What (in your personal opinion) are the pros and cons of that material? Also, I have heard that the cork tiles dent over time. Is that true, and if so, how long until that happens? What happens if the bathtub overflows? Etc etc... Thanks so much in advance!
Cork flooring: how easy to maintain? We're considering cork floors for a new home theater room (slab construction). Cork is supposed to have good insulating and accoustic properties, but how durable is it and how easy to maintain?
What is best underlayment for laminate flooring; cork or?? The flooring is "glueless" floating; for the living room, dining room and kitchen. It was recommended by the seller of the flooring. It was recommended by the seller of the flooring; not the manufacturer. It is 6mm and appears to be what we want; just wanting to see if others had used something different. Cork seems to be the best for sound; environmentally good, etc..
Does anyone know anything about cork flooring? I am doing my basement and putting in a jam room for my band to practice in. I was thinking about cork flooring but don't know too much information.. any Pros or Cons? -Thanks, I appreciate it
Is Cork flooring good for a kitchen? I am thinking of remodelling my kitchen and although I would love to put limestone on the floor I have a lot of foot problems so I want a floor that is a little softer and not to hard to stand on. (therefore I don't want slate or ceramic either). The floor that butts up to the kitchen is Brazilian Cherry and I love it but I don't want to extend that through for fear of not matching. I am thinking of granite or quartz countertops and limestone backsplash.
Has anyone used cork flooring? I want to install a floating cork flooring but I have read the floating floor is not advise for the bathroom. Any advice.
Cork Flooring....Yes or No? I am looking for a kitchen floor. I do not want ceramic tile and I am leery of hardwood. I was looking at cork flooring and wanted to know if anyone has it in their kitchens and if they like it or not. Is it hard to keep clean?
Pros and cons of floating cork flooring. I need a flooring over a concrete floor that has a little give to it. I know that cork has a long life, is good for the enviroment, but would like to hear from someone with actual experience using it.
floating cork flooring? I hate the tile in my kitchen but my Dad will not let me take it out. I was hoping for something quick and enexpensive. I came across cork flooring. Now..I figured the floating meant no adhesive. Has anybody applied this type of flooring on top of tile and did it work? Any other suggestions are welcome. Thanks!
What do you clean cork floor with that will disinfect? I have a cork floor in the kitchen. Products for wood floor leave a residue on the top of it. I am afraid to use something harsh enough for tile. What would you use? Something more on the natural side would be preferred.

What is the best brand/s of floating cork flooring? I plan to install in dining room. (We have 3 messy kids.)? I've read that cork density matters, but it's hard to find the density of some cork flooring...and when I do find the technical info is in either metric, standard, or a value that doesn't seem right. It's hard to compare apples to apples. I wish I could find a comparison chart on the different brands of floating cork flooring. I've heard of brands: Wicanders (100 and 1000 series), Vallerex from Expanko, Naturals, APC, DaVinci, Jelinex, QU-Cork, and Envirocork....but I don't know which of those is best. Well, I know Wicanders 1000 is better than it's 100, but that's all I know. Are there better ones to know? Also, I've read to NOT get the kind manufactured in China due to quality assurance problems. We plan to coat with 4 coats of poly, so the factory finish (rather acrylic or poly) is probably not a big issue. At least that's my guess. Any thoughts from people who know more than me (that should be a lot of folks) is greatly appreciated.
Environmentalists fear that if all wineries adopt screwcaps, the cork forests in Europe will be developed, but if the cork industry just better promotes cork FLOORING (a great environmental product), shouldn't that be enough to offset losing the stopper market? Forest concerns notwithstanding, cork DOES fail as a stopper by allowing cork taint to ruin up to 20% of all wine produced annually. Wineries could even help promote this, not least by using cork flooring (perhaps outside of production areas) themselves. cattdaddy: What am I asking? I'm not sure what you are saying. Is it good to have cork in forests? I haven't asked or declared anything about such a concept. What does that have to do with my question? Forgive me, but you really seem uneducated about current wine trends. Plumpjack costs over $100 and uses a screwcap and has for years. Even traditional *gasp* French appellations and using more Stelvin screwcaps. Environmentalists have made the wine corks an issue, if you don't think it's an issue, tell them that, not me. This is their assertion that screwcaps will lead to less need of growing cork oaks, thus leading to cutting of forests in favor of more lucrative real estate deals: http://www.ajc.com/business/content/business/stories/2007/08/28/Corks_0829.html (The above is an AP article by Sarah Skidmore available on many websites.) As far as recycling cork, where can I do that where I live? Where I live we DO recycle aluminum (the material in the screwcap) David, 15% may be the high end of the anecdotal claims (from the wine industry itself, not me). However, you also appear to be mistaken. I read alot of wine periodicals and I've never once read a winemaker state they were switching to screwcaps because of a lack of cork!!! Show me your contrary evidence, please, I would love to see it. The only reason winemakers are even daring to try to overcome the silly romance of corks in the marketplace is because screwcaps do not permit the wine to be tainted by the compounds cork allows to taint wines: http://www.winepros.org/wine101/vincyc-tca.htm "Damage to the wine industry annually from Cork Taint is estimated to be $10-billion worldwide." And just logically ... if there was a cork shortage, but winemakers were moving toscrewcaps, why would environmentalists be protesting this move?? Currently wine stoppers are the most important part of the cork trade. If a shortage were real, it would be for other uses, such as flooring.
Hardwood, engineered, cork, or laminate flooring? We are building a new house in the country. The living room, dining room, and kitchen are one open area. Which flooring product would be the best for this area. The laundry room is through a door off of the dining room and will probably have a tile floor. This is a second home.
