  1. laminate flooring has its own underlay type thing your best off using that, you can buy a thick foam one or really thick hard cardboard floor board things
  2. No....There is a specific underlay especially for laminate flooring.
  3. not a good idea!
  4. Tony M i take it you are a man, cos a woman wouldn't ask such a question. When yo bought the flooring did it have carpet underlay in the same aisle, NO i bet it never. Don't tell me you've bought gripper to go round the edges to hold it in place!!
  5. No ,N o good for laminates,Use the proper stuff.
  6. Yes you can i have done it in my house. i was told by the diy store that its basicaly the same. all thats different is laminate flooring underlay is cut into strips and it costs more.
  7. You should not use carpet pad under a laminate floor, because it will act as a spring board, and will be very bouncy, and will cause the locking mechanism on the laminate floor to break, or come apart.... laminate underlay does not come in strips, you can buy rolls of it, just like carpet pad.. but for your sake don't use carpet pad as an underlayment for laminate flooring, it will cause you more problems.. if you are putting it on a concrete floor, then you will have to put plastic down, then the laminate pad.. on wooden subfloors just use laminate pad.. Edit: the cardboard laminate underlay type is not very good, because it doesnt stick to the floor, or the laminate, and the floor could shift.. I recommend the rubber/plastic foam, but its anywhere from 35-60 dollars for 50 sq. ft. of it... but if you are on a budget, use the regular plastic foam, which you can get for about 25 dollars, and it is 300 sq. ft. you will see it in the aisle where you got the laminate, or if you ordered it through a small business, ask them what underlayment they normally use.
