Can I reuse carpet underlay outside, under my dogs mat?

I just pulled up my old carpet and need to replace the underlay as well. Can I use the old stuff outside? It'll be under cover, but there will be moisture in the air. Will it mold? Off gas? I hate to put it in the landfill if there are other uses for it.
