What can I use under my carpet underlay to insulate my floor?
I have timber floor boards but cant take them up as they are tongue and groove. I am thinking that I can lay some kind of "thermal insulation" under my carpet underlay to make the floor warmer. There is no damp. Do anyone know what I can use ? Sensible helpful answers only please. Happy New Year

- Hi there In the olden days we used to use multi-layers of newspapers. This was a good draft insulation. Best wishes from Sue
- "erskine" has it in one, There are electric pads available that emit gentle heat which are placed under the carpet.
- Be carefull with doing anything like this, believe it or not, you do have normal vapor that passes thru your floor. And trapping this on one side or another will only cause bigger problems like mold and rot. You can insulate a cavity on the underside of the floor is possible, if not, we may need more infor to properly direct you.
- Newspaper worked very well in the olden days so I don't see why it should not now. Cheap too. Just think how interesting it will be in years to come when you raise the carpet and read the old papers.
