What kind of bedding to use in dog house that won't attract spiders or snakes?

I want to put some bedding in my outdoor dog house to help with the wet and/or cold for my dog, but we have lots of spiders in our back yard and don't want to attract them into his dog house. Any suggestions?

  1. Wood shavings from pine and cedar trees have been used for years as bedding for everything from horses to mice. The shavings are a great bedding material because they are soft and comfortable, and they absorb excess moisture while covering up unpleasant odors. Wood shavings have a repellent effect on fleas and other insects, and they are environmentally safe when it is time to dispose of them. Another attractive feature of wood shavings is the pleasant aroma of pine and cedar. Wood shavings, however, also have potential health risks. Be sure the wood shavings come from a reputable source, and NEVER USE WOOD SHAVINGS FOR PREGNANT OR NEWBORN ANIMALS. Shavings can cause serious problems when used as bedding for a breeding bitch or newborn puppies. Wood shavings are sometimes found to carry a potentially harmful bacteria called Klebsiella.
  2. well you could try to put carpet in. that might help with the spiders and stuff. but i dont think anything can help with not attrackting thim. if yoiu dont want them around try grtting a spraw that will kill the spiders byt also be unharmfull to you dog(s).
  3. I have two indoor/outdoor dogs they come and go as they please but they prefer to be outdoors (I have to force them inside when I leave or if it gets too hot/cold) more than anything so I put straw or hay in one because he likes to rearrange it himself. Then in the other house I bought about 6 bathroom rugs and put one in her house and switch it out and wash the other one once a week.
