Underlays

Can I use carpet instead of underlay landscape cloth in my yard?

I have problem of weeds in my yard,I am tired of pulling them out but they grow again,Now I am looking for permanent solution. I have some carpet which has to thrown out I was thinking to use that carpet as underlay instead of using landscape underlay. Can someone advice if it is a good idea I think that If I used the carpet I am concerned about growth of insects and worms please advise.

  1. No, do not use carpet. when it rains it will soak up the water and hold it causing mold to form. And it wouldn't be long before it would rot.
  2. out here in the boonies there are a lot of people that use old carpet out in the yard, they just put it on the ground and occasionally blow it off with leaf blower to clean, it takes forever to rot because most carpet now days is basically plastic. not really pretty but functional out in the woods under trees where you want to have a cook out occasionally. really----hillbilly flair
